| Deerfield was first settled in 1835, and incorporated in 1903. Spanning seven square miles, Deerfield's population is 18,420. Deerfield is known as a small, quiet, family-friendly community. Excellent public schools, low crime, and exceptional property value are just a few of the attributes that make Deerfield one of Chicago's most desirable suburbs. Recently, the Village undertook a major overhaul of its downtown area. In the planning stages for years, most of the city center was redesigned, leveled, and completely rebuilt. The new city center is composed of more than a dozen rich, cohesive, brick clad structures, and has become the summertime focus of live concerts and various festivals. In addition, there is a farmer's market that's open for business from April to October. With the renovation completed, the downtown area has seen an infusion of new retail and commercial space. There are a number of new restaurants which have also opened for the convenience of residents and visitors alike. In addition, three new residential properties piggy-backed onto the new downtown development, and now sit immediately adjacent to the revitalized city center. One of those properties, The Villas of South Commons, affords its residents all the amenities downtown Deerfield has to offer - only footsteps away.
